             abstract = "The objective of this work was to estimate the coffee crop yield 
                         in the southern region of Minas Gerais State, Brazil, for the crop 
                         years of 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08 through an 
                         agrometeorological-spectral model. MODIS LAI collection 5 was used 
                         as input data in the model for the potential crop yield 
                         calculation. Other input variables were meteorological data 
                         generated from the regional weather forecast model ETA and soil 
                         water holding capacity estimated from a soil map. The official 
                         statistic data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and 
                         Statistics (IBGE) was used as a reference. Relative differences 
                         between the models and IBGEs estimated crop yield, for regional 
                         scale, were 5.94% and 4.90% for the crop years of 2005/06 and 
                         2006/07. For municipal scale, the compared crop yield data showed 
                         correlation coefficients equal to 0.60 and 0.78 for the respective 
                         years. For the crop year 2007/08 was observed a 21% loss of 
                         potential crop yield because the water stress occurred during the 
                         flowering period. This result wasn`t accused by preliminary data 
                         released by the reference used.",
